Two. TWO! (Nearly)

If you have time, I wonder if you'd mind going over to my Milk and Cookies post to help me choose presents for Henry's birthday. I am STUCK.

And incidentally, do you realize Henry is turning TWO this month? Two. TWO!!

Then: newborn with bird limbs and woodland-creature eyes. Barely big enough to wear a tiny side-snap baby Dior shirt I bought at a consignment shop when I was pregnant with Rob.

Now: nearly 2, grubby and loud and taking over the household.

This is hard for me to believe, as I am in the bird leg newborn stage and I just can't imagine my little babeh ever being such a BIG child! He is gorgeous and always seems so happy!

Nearly two? Really? But I remember discussing what you would name him! It can't be that long ago.

He's so cute, and is definitely a Swistle child!

Gah, he is so cute! I used to make a friend of mine go look at all the baby pictures you would post of him because he was the most perfect looking baby ever. I can't believe he is two! Whoa!

Cannot believe he's almost 2. Also cannot believe your twins and my boy are almost 4!

I can't believe that is Henry! I thought it was Edward! Oh MY.

"woodland creature eyes" = perfect description!

And yes, little boys are grubby. But they're also snuggly. Which more than makes up for the grub, imo.

He is SO SO CUTE!

I can't BELIEVE IT.

I'm going to answer the what to but question here.
I used to work with childrens products and toys everyday, and I got this exact same question EVERYDAY! This is what I told people:
At 2-3 years old kids go through a time when they are learning things like refined hand eye coordination and developing language skills. 2 of the greatest (and non messy) things I can recommmend are read along board books (books with cd's) http://www.amazon.com/Things-That-Read-Sing-Along/dp/076964595X/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1242836539&sr=1-2 and an Aquadoodle. Coloring with WATER, it's like magic for a 2 year old, and the best part is that he can't color on anything else and it's great for summer play. I bought one for my 2 year old nephew and he LOVES it.
Or consider giving him an experience for his birthday. Like a pony ride or a petting zoo. then he can have fun and you can have a memory, the best kind of keepsake!

heehee, my veri-word is mismssiv!

I think I started reading your blog right around when Henry was born, and yet I was still surprised to see him so little and baby-like. HELLO WEE HENRY! So cute. And getting cuter with age!

jen said...

can't believe it either! He always looked so much older to me since I had my own little birdleg :) And it seems soooooo long ago at the same time! And my own is turning 2 "soon" it just blows my mind.

Seriously? Henry = 2?? I don't believe it. Cannot believe it. You're just kidding us, right?? Because he is a BAAAAABY still.

i think there has been an error calculating his age. i'd demand a recount, if i were you.

Two year old boys (and all ages, really) LOVE superheroes. Spiderman, batman, superman, etc. ANything with those in mind will excite him. :)

Daniel's absolute best ever gift was a Surprize Ink Colouring Book.

The magic pen smelled like a chemistry experiment, so I can't be sure it wasn't the getting high Daniel enjoyed more than the colouring, but whatever. It kept him occupied for HOURS, even after all the invisible pictures were (magically!) made uninvisible with the (magical!) pen.

That's a stupid link for BOXES of the books. They're on Amazon too , but the range is smaller and less picture graphic of the exact book I'm over explaining for you, hence the stupid link that does the over explaining for me.

Okay, I never write on your blog but I read often, and even though I do not have a boy and my only child (girl) just turned two I have no suggestions for you for Henry.
However I loved the other post about girl shirts and how you can't get one, my spouse for Christmas went shopping with my girlie and they picked up a dinosaur shirt for me it's a really cute one of a girl and boy dinosaur with a heart in the middle! :) I don't know if you have the store there but they got it at Urban planet,
as for shirts to fit your 4 year old girl check out this site;

It feels like you just had Henry yesterday. YESTERDAY.

Melospiza said...

Wait--but--how can...Henry is two? How can that be?

The HARDEST PART of having kids is not the barf, or the whining, or the noise: it's how they are SO DISCOURTEOUS in how they are ALWAYS showing you how much time has passed. They even do this to TOTAL STRANGERS, like me.

But my god he's cute. At two and at newborn.

They just grow up way too quickly! My baby-baby is turning two tomorrow, and I just want to hug her and tell her to stop growing up. But then I'd miss out on seeing the young woman she is destined to become, and how could I miss out on that?

My oldest is 22, and although I miss my baby, I'm enjoying him as an adult, too.

Happy Birthday Henry! I also have a Henry who turned 2 this month. :-) Such a fun, OPINIONATED time.

Long time reader, first time commenter - I heartily enjoy your blog, Swistle!

Happy Birthday little man!

He's Darling. Just squishable.

I started reading during your pregnancy with Henry - I can't believe he is two already. This defies all logic.
